Getting ready for school no 3: Communication Passports
Getting ready for school no 3: Communication Passports
6.30pm-8.30pm
These three workshops have been developed as a series for parents to learn more about preparing their child for school. Parents may attend all three workshops or just one or two in the series.
Learn about:
- How to set up a system to help people at school know the most important things about your child.
Communication Passports aim to:
- Present the person positively as an individual;
- Provide a place for the child's own views and preferences to be recorded and drawn to the attention of others;
- Reflect the child's unique character, sense of humour etc.;
- Describe the person's most effective means of communication and how others can best communicate with, and support your child;
- Draw together information from past and present, and from different contexts, to help staff and conversation partners understand the child and have successful interactions;
- Place equal value on the views of all who know the child well, as well as the views of the specialist professionals.
