Infant Play and Therapy Group

The Infant Play and Therapy Group aims to provide practical ideas for assisting parents to help their very young children. The group is free and provides:

  • Play positioning for infants who are not mobile;
  • Practical and fun games to enhance parent-child communication;
  • Information about infant play skills, and relaxation strategies, and
  • Opportunities for parent-to-parent discussion and support.

The group is co-facilitated by consultant Physiotherapist Cathy Webb and various staff from Pathways ECI for children aged up to two years old. Some children have a diagnosis; others have developmental concerns with no clear diagnosis.

The group provides information to families across a range of areas, including: child development; communication; talking with your paediatrician, and parent-to-parent support.

Specific physiotherapy support include: activities and games aimed at improving balance, strength and coordination in preparation for mobility/walking, as well as play positions for young children. Specific education/occupational therapy support has included ideas for play activities aimed at enhancing children’s development and leading the song, rhyme and story time sections of the sessions. Our speech pathologist provides support on feeding and communication strategies.
