Transition to School Program
One to One
|
Our Staff will help and support parents/carers to make informed choices about future placements for their children. In addition we will support parents in the decision and provide assistance to make that transition as smooth as possible. We affirm the right of all children to go to their local school.
- Families will be given information regarding school placement for their child during the year the child turn three years old. Choices available to families will be explained and procedures for transition will be provided.
- Where families chose to send their child to a local public school, Pathways ECI will liaise with the Department of School education where appropriate to assist in the transition process. For these families, Pathways ECI will follow Department of Education policies including ”Transition to School for Young Children with Special Learning Needs: Guidelines for Families, Early Childhood Services and Schools”. Translations will be available or obtain where possible.
- Staff will go with parents to visit schools if possible or if parents wish for this to happen when they are making their decision.
- To facilitate the transition to school, Pathways ECI will provide up to two consultations or visits in Term 1 and Term 2 of the year the child starts school.
- Workshops or parent/carer discussion groups will be provided on the issue.
